Oil painting
I have been enjoying getting to know oil paints, I like the effects of laying down paint thickly with a palette knife in particular, and brushing on thinner paint with brushes. I used to be wary of using paint as I thought you can’t get the same amount of detail as you can with pencil, or maybe you can, maybe using very thin brushes. In my youth, anything I painted was not good, although in the later years, I had dabbled with acrylics and sold a few paintings, so I can’t have been all that bad.
This landscape painting I have just completed was painted on linen oil paper, size A4 and was from my own photograph.. I was heading back to my holiday cottage in Johnshaven, Scotland and the skies turned so dark, the contrasts between the field and sky was fabulous, the heavens opened shortly after.
